The best of both worlds....Fast-5 and 5 bite diet combined!

I joined another group on facebook recently called Fast Five with Five Bite Diet.  Part way through my weight loss journey I started using Intermittent Fasting with a 5 hour window and (Fast-5 diet) and eating only a small amount of bites (10-15 bites a lot of days) inside my window. Here is the blog post when I started Intermittent Fasting and the benefits I noticed then http://countyourbites.blogspot.com/2013/12/intermittent-fasting-and-tracking-bites.html

Someone came up with the idea to have unlimited fruits and veggies in your 5 hour window and only 5 bites of regular food 2x (10 bites a day)  This allows you to still enjoy the benefits of  eating a healthy fruit and vegetable rich diet and yet still lose weight at a fast rate with the 5 bite diet....

Here are the basic guidelines with my touch ....

1. Skip morning meal. Black coffee and calorie free drinks are ok

2. Eat within 5 consecutive hours. (Example: eat one meal at 1 pm and one meal at 5:00-6:00 pm. make sure you finish before the 5 hours are up)

3. Eat only 5 bites for Lunch and 5 bites for Dinner... (10 total)

4. The 5 bites can be anything... include at  least a bite or two of protein each day.

5. Take a multivitamin and drink lots of water

6. Add in Unlimited Fruits and Veggies in your 5 bite meals. My note: my personal preference would be no more than 2 pieces of fruit per day. (Only eat these in your 5 hour window)

7. Lettuce and raw veggies are free. If you do a salad, but count every Tablespoon of dressing, nuts, cheese, etc you put on your salad as 1 bite each.

8. Expect to lose weight fairly fast.. I lost weight almost everyday or every 1-3 days during my weight loss journey most weeks. You can find my record of bites and wieght loss here
http://countyourbites.blogspot.com/2014/01/here-is-diary-of-each-days-aprox-bites.html

9.Join the Facebook Group Fast Five with 5 bite diet here
 https://www.facebook.com/groups/520927154710157/?ref=br_tf

You can find Dr. Bert Herring's free e-book about the Fast-5 bite diet here
http://www.fast-5.org/sites/default/files/Fast-5-ebook100.pdf

You can find Dr. Lewis book "Why Weight Around? book on Amazon or other places
http://www.amazon.com/Why-Weight-Around-Changing-Strategy/dp/0615148077/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419871854&sr=8-1&keywords=why+weight+around

In re-cap, calorie-rice foods like meat, sandwiches, bread, potatoes, pizza etc you can eat for your 5 bites... Salads/raw fruits and vegetables are unlimited....all within your 5 hour eating window.

My personal spin when I was losing weight  was that  I took most weekends and/or Sundays special occasions and allowed more bites on those days and still lost alot of weight fairly quickly. I ate up to 30-40 bites or more on Sundays a lot of weeks and that might have helped keep my body guessing? It allowed me a little freedom, and helped keep me from feeling completely deprived!

So you want to try the 5 bite diet but you want to be able to eat more healthy with more  fruits and vegetables...Here you go! The best of both worlds.

I mentioned that my personal preference would be to limit my fruit to 2 pieces per day,  too much fruit could stall weight loss, etc

Wieght Maintenance Update

Hi! I have not been blogging very regularly lately!

But I am happy to say that today my weight is 148.4 lbs inside my weight maintenance range of 144.5-149.5 lbs

My weight has fluctuated up and it has also come back down on a regular basis.

Every week on Wednesday or Thursday mornings, I enter my weight into a Stickk.com Maintenance Contracts. This has helped me keep from gaining all my weight back.  Every Wednesday or Thursday morning, my weight must be 150 or below!

There have been times I have been out of the notion to care about it. Sometimes I am in the mood, sometimes out of the mood to keep up it. But you know what, when we just do it anyway  even when we don't feel like it, we are usually glad we stuck with it!  Stickk has helped me with this. I have something to answer to!

So far I since April 29,2014 when I started the Stickk commitment,

I have kept  26 Commitments and Lost 3 of them.

I highly recommend Stickk.com, it could change your life!

Comments and Questions are Welcome!

I have started a New 5 bite Video Series on Youtube, I will do another blog post about that!

Disappearance of Facebook's 1400 member 5-bite Group

Update: you can now find about 5 different 5 bite/ bite counting Facebook groups! The blogpost about that is here
http://countyourbites.blogspot.com/2015/01/online-social-support-helps-you-stick.html

Some of you may  belong to the big Facebook private 5-bite Diet Group.  Recently Facebook took that 1400 group down.

The group administrator is trying to get it back.

In the meantime, people are meeting in the small 5-bite group that used to be called "The Finish Line" They renamed it Count Bites not Calories.

Big group members who agree to comply with the Guidelines of the Count Bites group are welcome to join it.

The 5-4-3-2-1 Bite Diet and how to "Balance your Bites"

This is an eating plan for those of us out there that would like a little guidance in balancing your daily bites.

IT is called the 5-4-3-2-1 diet. It is really easy to follow too!

3 times a day: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner eat:
  • 5 bites of protein.
  • 4 bites of vegetables.
  • 3 bites of carbs, preferably whole grain.
  • 2 bites of sweets.
  • 1 minute between bites.

They advocate eating a snack between meals, but I do not recommend this. Around One minute between bites is something I have been recommending and doing a lot of the time since I started losing weight in October 2013.  You can find the website with more details here

http://www.easy-weightloss-tips.com/5-4-3-2-1diet.html

Some people this will not work well for...They need the freedom to be able to choose anything within their bite count allowed each day.  The original bite counting system, eat whatever you want works wonderful for most people...

But if you are one of these that really want to focus on health, and making sure you are getting certain nutrients or have health concerns/issues then by all means give the Balance Formula for bite counting a try.  If it proves to be too much, go back to how you did it before, no worries!

The Balance Formula is still much easier than counting calories I believe....

You can use a similar "Master Formula" and do this with any amount of bites!

Master Balance Formula

1.  1/3 of total bite count for each Meal:  Protein bites
2.  1/4 of total bite count for each Meal: Starch/Carb bites
3. 1/4 of total bite count for each Meal: Fruit and/or Veggie bites
4. 1/5-1/6 of total bite count for each Meal: "sweet" or "dessert"

So lets give an example here.... Let's say you are eating 24 bites for supper and you want to try the Balance Formula.  So, a 24 bite Meal would look like this using the Master Balance Formula:

Example:
24 bite Meal
8 bites Protein
6 bites Starch/Carb
6 bites  Fruits and/or Veggies
4 bites "Sweets"/Dessert

Example:
12 bite Meal:
4 bites Protein
3 bites Starch/Carb
3 bites  Fruits and/or Veggies
2 bites "Sweets"/Dessert

You can do this with any bite number, the smaller you go, the more you have to modify the formula a bit.

Example for smaller Meals:
3 bite Meal
1 bite Protein
1 bite Starch/Fruit/or Veggie
1 bite "sweet"

NOTE: if you are having a mixture, like a casserole that contains meat, carb and veggie,  the total amount together of protein, veg, and carb bites would be the total bite eaten of that dish.

This is only for those that want or have a desire to balance out their food, for health or personal reasons.  Most people that count bites do pretty well just leaving it open and free to what their body craves/desires are!

Have a Wonderful day and Comments Are Welcome!

Hello! I am still counting bites! I have been dealing with some health issues... I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. No, I dont have cysts on my ovaries... I have elevated blood sugar levels after meals sometimes which makes my testosterone levels go up, which stops my menstrual cycle.

Even counting bites is not enough to lower my blood sugar all the time.

Even losing weight to a healthy weigth was not enough to get me out of being Insulin Resistant...

I have had 5 children and 1 of those children, I had borderline sugar issues. 4 of those children I had Gestational Diabetes.

Losing weight before has always usually seemed to bring my periods back, but this time losing weight is not enough.

I am trying to figure out way of lowering my blood sugar and improving my glucose tolerence in taking supplements right now. There are certain ways of eating--low glycemic index, carb to protien ratio ect, that could be incorporated INTO the Bite Counting Way of Life.

ITs something I have considered. Obviously, my diet has too much sugar in it sometimes, and my body doesn't like it.

I dont like to make a bunch of rules for myself about how much sugar I can have ect, because that makes me feel more deprived, but I seriously need to consider how I am going to get my sugar levels in my blood down, before I get Diabetes, and so I can get my menstrual periods back.

We are also dealing with Financial issues. My husband is barely making enough  money. Our pay got cut about 500 dollars a month in January or so of this year, and we are living paycheck to paycheck.  Please pray that he will find a job soon that will make us more money and so that we can get along better financially....

Homeschool is starting soon!  yay! My daughter is starting Kindergarten and she is excited! We like Abeka Academy Online Streaming.... saves me a lot of time and they get taught an awesome education from some of the best Teachers in the  United States. Plus its College Preparatory! I have 6th grade, 5th grade, 2nd grade and Kindergarten.

Week 21 Maintenance Plan

Been Counting bites for over 8 1/2 months. Have I been perfect in that time? No! But I have been able to lose over 70 pounds and keep my wieght Maintained around 147 pounds. Sometimes I went over my goal range but I always saw a number within a few pounds of my goal range.

Bite counting works as a long term way to lose the weight and keep it off.

IT is a way of control.  It makes me feel in control to count my bites and stay on my plan!

Make a plan for yourself for a week and stick to it, even if you dont feel like it! That is the key. Doing stuff and being consistent when we dont really want to, then we see results!

Maintenance Plan for Week 20 and new bite app/video

Back from Vacation and back on track!

Yesterday I found a Youtube video and a new app for Bite counting!

The instructions on this video on how to establish a baseline and then decrease bites is very similar to the instructions outlined in the Family Circle article in the first post on my blog found here http://countyourbites.blogspot.com/2013/11/count-bites-not-calories-doctors-new.html

Video

http://youtu.be/ACZudjDrjTg

The app actually helps you get started with a baseline number of bites and then decrease I think, which would be good for some newbies and to track bites. And its FREE!

Maintenance Plan for Week 14

I am going to stay with 40 bites next week. As you can see I am at the upper end of my Goal Range....But no spazing out!!! It will come off eventually, if I stick to my bite plan!!

------------------------------------

Behavior= Results
-----------------------

Good Behavior= Good Results
Negative Behavior= Bad Results

In this I know, If I stick to the plan, the wieght drops and stays in my goal range. IF I SPAZ out that my wieght is in the upper range, and start binging, my wieght will NOT stay in the goal range. Like Reinhard Engels says, Do the Minimum Level of Requirement.  That is what keeps us in it for the long term!

No problem, if my weight is still in the upper range next Thursday at my bite Evaluation, all I have to do is simply LOWER my bites a bit more and the weight will naturally drop on its own.

Read my friend Phyllis Collins blogs about this...

I like to have this goal range that I can move back and forth without stressing too much....

I had a Capital S day on Last Friday and it was fun.

I am having a few problems with exercise, burn-out and also another possible health problem that makes me not want to exercise as hard... I want to get an elliptical, that minimizes impact and also would give me a variety.

So If I dont exercise as much or as hard, it will take less bites to maintain my wieght, and I choose what I want, and then I Accept the behavior that it will take to keep me there...In other words, accept the small amount of food it takes for me to Maintain my weight if I choose not to exercies as much/as hard.

Maintenance Plan for Week 12

Ive decided to keep my bite count the same for next week as I will have a Capital S day coming up in another week or two. (For those of you who are not familiar with that term, it means I am free for the most of the day   to not count bites or limit my food for the most paRt.. My dear husband takes me out to a few different restaurants and I enjoy that day!  A "free day" sort of.) Thinking about taking an S day on May 10th, not sure yet....

As you can see I lost a few pounds scince last week, but I have really been cutting down on my sweets kind of automaticly, because I was having a  suspicion  it was causing a few health problems (heart palps) So I have decided its best to to just keep things simple and not put a cap on my "allowed sweets", and let myself Intuitively  decide how many bites of sweets I want to consume in my bite count. I always am pulled towards having some protien in every meal for sure.

Someone mentioned on the No S forums how that bite counting couldnt become unconscience effort. In my experience,  Anything can become an unconscience effort when it becomes a Habit!!!

My friend over at http://diethobby.com/blog.php  has counted calorie and recorded them, day in and day out for years. She has made it a habit in her life and she has had wonderful success Maintaining her weight Long term by doing this!

Using my Eat Slower Pro App    has made it easier to become a natural habit, I don't have to put forth alot of effort to count my bites!  The app does it Automatically  for me. When I am away from home, I can simply place my phone on my lap and it automatically vibrates and counts my bites, spacing each bite around a minute apart so I can still eat  delicious foods and enjoy them, all the while eating slowly....

By doing the same thing, day in and day out, it has become a habit for me.... It is not always perfect, but it has become a habit in my life now.

Even people who have  followed Vanilla No S for years sometimes get off track for a week or a few days. Judith Beck says, dieting and Maintaining your weight follows the following sequence: It is easy for a while and then you go through a period where it may be a bit harder, then it gets easy.... This pattern continues over and over and over again!!!

So Do What Works For YOU! That is what will make you successful in the long term!!! :)

Yay for Habits, for they are powerful things!

Review of The Mouthful Diet

One evening I just happened to punch in Mouthful or a similar word in google or google books search and I found a research study or two that  was about poeple counting bite and also found a book that told about the diet.  It was in the early 1970's, so I think that is probably where the Counting Bite Concept probably originated from.

Dr. Black Family Circle Article was from a little later, 1977-1978. (See first post on this blog for that article)

The book is Behavioral Approaches to Weight Control  by Edward E. Abramson . The book has about 10 pages or so dedicated to a chapter on The Mouthful Diet. The chapter is written by S. Fowler, who conducted the research study in the early 1970's.

You can find some interesting links here about the research study(s)  ect...

 Quote from

The mouthful diet: A behavioral approach to overeating.

By Fowler, Roy S.; Fordyce, Wilbert E.; Boyd, Vicki D.; Masock, Alexander J.

Rehabilitation Psychology, Vol 19(3), 1972, 98-106.

Abstract
Tested an eating system based on learning theory principles requiring little professional supervision. Ss count mouthfuls as they are taken and establish individual daily limits of food intake according to weekly weight change patterns. 3 groups of female Ss (N = 72) were used: active, control, and dropout. Of the 58 Ss instructed in the system, 43 reported a change in eating habits with gradual sustained weight loss over 8 mo

The study above the Participants had a gradual Sustained Weight Loss over an 8 month Period with counting bites.

They actually designed a Bite Counter type Computer gadget and tried to patent it.... It is VERY similar to the  Eat Slower Pro App that I use 3 times a day almost every single day (and have for the last 6 1/2 months). Amazing how the App is so similar to the orginal invention! They came up with some pretty  neat inventions back in the olden days too ;)

IF you can sort down through some of the pages, there is some interesting information in this link about hte studies and how they had the poeple count their bites...

patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/pdfs/US4218611.pdf

In Reviewing the book I mentioned above, the information about the Mouthful Diet contained in it, matched pretty close the original Family Circle Article found in the first post on this blog.

S. Fowler  recomends establishing a baseline to see how many bites you are eating, without changing your eating habits.

He says poeple start to cut down in his experience [even though they are not required to in the first week or two]

Then he recomends  getting the number of the  average bites per day, and subtracting 2 bites per day each day, to get a new "Upper Limit of Mouthfuls" for each day next week.

In another place (the Pdf link above about the invention) said in the study they had Participantes Subtract 1 bite per meal, total 3 bites per day from the Average Bite Count Per Day  When they wanted to lose weight that "next week".

So in recap, they do very similar to what I am doing now in Maintenance. They recomend wieghing once a week and comparing your wieght this week to last weeks weight. (I recomend weighing daily and charting on a moving average chart like Trendwieght.com which is free)

If the weight is the same, they Recomend taking away 2-3 bites per day so you start losing again.

If you lost too much wieght, they recomend adding 2-3 bites per day to balance it out.

...and so on....once a week re-evaluating your bite count for the next week, based on your wieght loss/gain/maintain  results VS. your bite count...

The chapter on the Mouthful Diet  went on to talk about Habits, How that we Reinforce our Behavior, and the more we do good behavior, the more it becomes automatic and Reinforeced,ect...

One Quote from the book in the Mouthful Diet Chapter... page 95

Learning to stop eating is the most difficult part of dieting.  When you practice stopping frequently enough, it becomes easier to continue this pattern.  At first, stopping at bite 150 is as difficult if not more difficult as stopping at bite 75 or less later on.  This is especially true when you stop and dont see weight loss. Dont give up. Keep cutting down and keep stopping.  You are rehearsing  the behavior which is going to make the difference later.  You are controlling your own eating behavior.  You are stopping when you dont want to stop.

So practice STOPPING!  This really seems to be alot of Dieting/Maintaining in one paragraph.  When we STOP eating when our alloted  Bite Count is eaten and accept it, and make a habit of it, that is when the results come...the results that follow Behavior!

He also says that some poeple have to cut down their bites  as much as 2/3 as what they were originally eating. For me, this is true.  When I was close to 218 pounds, I was eating around 160-200 bites a day. Now around 145 pounds, I am eating 45 bites a day or so to Maintain my wieght. That is  1/4 to 1/3 of What I used to eat.  And I know Reduced Obese poeple that have lose weight, have to eat less to maintain anyway ;)

He says you can follow any diet or Special Diet with the Mouthful eating plan. He says it doesnt matter what you eat, its how much.

He says if you "squander your bites" on high calorie food,   you will have to eat less bites to continue to lose.  He talks of the Salad Loving Neighbor eating 200 bites a day.  So in recap, you can eat Low or High Calorie,  Just lots more bites with Low Calorie!

And it totally makes sense that you can follow any diet while  doing the Counting Bites Program. Low Glycemic Index, Low Carb,  South Beach,  anything. Just dont worry about the calories or serving sizes.

All you have to do is

1.count your bites and record them,

2. Wiegh regularly and record

3. evaluate your wieght vs. bites  once a week and change accordingly,
                          A. whether you want to gain, lose, or maintain your wieght
                          B. then you increase, decrease, or keep your bites the same based on A.

So I didnt learn alot of new stuff in the book, but just more proof that it is a legit way of eating. For some reason that made all the difference to me in the beginning when I first got inspiration to Count bites, knowing and reading about how a doctor had  it work for 200 poeple and recomended it as a Lifelong change ect... helped me to want to do it...

Although we probably will NOT be having more children, I think this Counting Bites could also work for pregnancy.  Eating a healthy balanced diet and gaining the perfect amount of weight recomended would be fairly easy with Bite Counting without the hassle of Calorie Counting. In the past, I have gained to the  Obese Range while pregnany, and acted like Pregnancy was a Free-for-all-binge. When in acutality, I was eating far far too much food and I acutally had high blood pressure in the 5th pregnancy in 2013.

Maintenance Plan for Week 11

Well I am almost to the end of my 5 N day experiment of No Sweets on N days, and I have decided for the time being to go back to the way it was before--allowing sweets anyday of the week. Only I want to try setting a moderate limit to it next week and see how it goes. (No more than 1/3 of my bites or so for each meal for Sweets) (candy, cookies, desserts, p butter)  Sweets is not jelly, yogurt and stuff like that.  If that doesnt work well for me, then I will probably go back to the way it was originally, where I decide how many bites of sweets I shall have and it is basicly unlimted, as long as I am within my bite count. So many experiments!

In the Meantime, I found out that Tryglyceride Fish Oil is about 70% more absorbed than Ethyl Ester Fish oil, at least for some time, so I am trying to change to Nordic Naturals to see if that also helps me more.  I take around 4 grams of EPA, a high dose of fish oil for my mental health. This is my personal choice, along with exercise ect to help boost my mood as a natural alternative

Maintenance Plan for Week 10

I am trying an experemint next week. I am going to cut out candy, desserts, cookies and peanut butter for my N days. I wonder if it has been making me feel down mentally. Just trying it for one week and see how I feel. This is a one week experemint, just for Monday through Friday. That  is how the NO S diet works, Reinhard says to cut out Sweets on N days (Monday through Friday) and allow yourself treats on S days--Saturday and Sunday. I am going to increase my bite count by 2 this week, because I will be eating  more fruits and veggies and such. On Thursday, I will re-evaluate and see if I want to do it again the next week or go back to my original plan, ect.

So off to the grocery store I go to get stuff for next week N days!

Maintenance Plan for Week 9

I have decided to up my bites by 1 bite each day for this next week. Been doing some Reading in the Maintenance Forums on 3 Fat Chicks, and some poeple notice that they maintain on a lower amount of calories AND sometimes on a little bit higher too, they maintain the exact amount of weight ect.  So I am expereminting to see how it affects my wieght, to add a bit more food. Of course, I am doing it very very very slowly, just one bite this week added to each day.

If I dont like it, then I can go back to what I was doing the next week. Its an Experemint-of-One.

I had major detox symptoms after trying to eat 3 Tablespoons of Wheat grass a day. I am trying to find a green powder that I can start small and work up slowly that I wont have side effects with

I recieved 2 Readers Digests and they were the wrong ones, so I have almost given up on finding the other bite counting article!

Interesting Article about Counting bites

I recently found an Old Article I want to share here about counting bites.

I do not agree with the whole article, but it does bring out some good points about varying flavors in your meals and the part about the bites. I always think Bite Counting articles are interesting and noteworthy.  2 fists of food at each meal I feel is probably too much for alot of poeple, but nevertheless, ithe article is worth looking at!

The ladies who promoted this way of eating recomended 15-18 bites per meal. They also recomend having Variety with your meals, and having 3-5 distinct tastes  at every meal.

I do this naturally myself! I crave Variety, lots of Variety. Often a bite or two of something is enough and I am off to enjoy the next delicious flavor of something else. Easy to do while counting bites and Eating slowly!

We dont need to shovel 15 bites of  anything in my mouth to "Taste" it.  By Eating Slowly, about a minute between each  bite  I can savor each flavor and I am ready  alot of times to move on to the next flavor/food after a few bites. Try it!

Also the part in the article about Not Stretching the Stomach is very important! If we dont stretch our stomachs, if we keep them tiny pouches by counting bites, it keeps our Hunger Hormones low and we feel full on a small amount of food. A similar principle why Stomach Stapling Surgery helps poeple eat less food, and they want to keep their pouch from stretching back out again too, by keeping their portions small.

"A Two-Fisted Diet Idea"

A Pair of New York Nutritionists suggests a unique way to limit food intake. Meredith Luce Hoblock and Joan Briebart believe in the two-fisted diet Self Magazine says.

According to this plan, Dieters can eat anything they want, as long as they consume no more than two cups of solid food at any meal.

A cup of food is roughly the size of a clenched fist, ergo the two-fisted label

The two cup standard is important because it provides sufficient nutrition without stretching your stomach.

Two cups of food equals about 15-18 normal bites, the nutritionist continue.

So if you dont care to measure food moniter intake that way. And by the way, limit those desserts to more than three bites.

A good way to satisfy your appetite without having to loosen your belt is to vary the flavors of the foods you eat.   Mesdames Hoblock and Briebart say that there should be at least three to five distinct tastes in every meal.

Maintenance Plan for Week 8

It's that time again! 45 bites seems to be about perfect for now, and figuring in that I want to have a Capital S day (almost no restricitons on bites ect....a free day) next week on April 12th , 45 bites  N days/ 55 bites S days seems to still be about right for this next week. My plan includes 1 Capital S day a month. My last one was March 1st, and I havent had one in April so hope to take a Capital S day on the 12th.

I have changed my goal wieght to 147 pounds for the next 12 weeks or so. So that Changes my Maintenance Range to 1 pound lower on both ends. I am comfortable moving my goal back and forth as I please As long as I always keep my goal 150 pounds or under

My dad measured me when we went to Ohio to visit them and I am around 5 feet 6 1/2 inches, not 5 feet 6. He also measured my 11 year old son and my son is 1/16 of an inch taller than me  ;)   So my BMI is lower than I thought!  I know, I know 1/2 inch doesnt make a huge difference but still! :)

I ordered the 1978 October Reader's Digest. There is supposed to be another article about Bite Counting in one of those old Reader's Digests! I read about it online in an old Newspaper. So hopefully the October issue is the right one.

Maintenance Plan for Week 7

I am inside my 5 lb maintenance Range this week instead of below! ;)

My husband thinks I should keep my bite goals the same as last week and just see how it goes. I will probably decrease next time if it goes to 147 or above. I like to stay over a pound under my goal instead of riding the line ;)

I am now getting 2 servings of fruit everyday. For some poeple this may not seem like much, but quite a bit for me from almost NO fruits and vegetables at all before. My goal is to eventually get 5-9 servings fruits/veg a day. I am eating 10 Sunsweet Prunes everyday. 2 Sunsweet Prunes equals one bite for me, so I eat 2 prunes (1 bite) at Breakfast and 4 (2 bites) at Lunch and 4 (2 bites) at Supper.

I am still getting 1 bite of Peanut butter at each meal 3 times a day. This is supposed to help Supress the appetite for 12 hours and it really does help. I measured out my 3 bites of peanut butter once just to see how much Peanut butter I was getting with 3 rounded bites everyday. It ended up being right around 2 Tablespoons peanut butter for the 3 bites. Thats nice to know because that was 2 Tablespoons Peanut butter was significant in clinical studies I read from the Peanut Institute. It is a proven fact  Peanut Butter regularly helps people keep their weight off long term. It really does decrease appetite! Try it!

Scince I have added the Prunes 3 times a day, I am able to keep my body running more smoothly, and I noticed it seemed like my cravings and/or desire for extra food was decreased even furthur than with just peanut butter.

Prunes are really good for keeping blood sugar stable too, so that might have something to do with why they say it helps people lose weight.

Maitnenance Plan for Week 5

Bites vs. Weight Re-evaluation time! I have decided to keep my bites the same for next week. I recently changed my goal weight from 150 to 148 for the next month+ starting on Monday March 17th on my new Maintenance Contracts. I dont know if I will sometime go lower or higher with my goal, I just dont want to ever have my goal above 150 lbs!

Current Weight: 144.6 lbs

Below 5 lb Maintenance Range (145.5 to 150.5)

See Goal Range/Trend wieght graphed out here
https://trendweight.com/u/cd1f67ad57c04c/

The maintenance Range is always 2.5 lbs above and  2.5 lbs below my goal wieght (148 lbs)

So I am still below my 5 lb range, but just decided to keep my bites the same for next week.

Monday-Friday (N days): 45 bites
Saturday-Sunday (S days): 55 bites

My daily plan for N days looks like this, I recently started eating breakfast before I exercise

7:30 Start exercising 4 miles

aprox 7 AM- 7:30 AM  7 bites

12- 12:15 PM  14 bites

6 PM or when family eats  24 bites

Total  Monday-Friday N days 45 bites

Saturday- Sunday 55 bites total eat 3-4 times

Maintenance Plan for Week 4

I am  soon going to be making my new Stickk.com commitment contracts for next week, so I am evaluating my current weight vs. bites and figuring my bite plan out for next week!

Weight: 147 lbs https://trendweight.com/u/cd1f67ad57c04c/chart/2w.png

Below 5 lb Maintenance Range

Still below 5 lb Range, I am increasing my bites by 5 this coming week, starting on Monday.

Monday-Friday (N days): 45 bites
Saturday-Sunday (S days): 55 bites

My daily plan for N days looks like this, I recently started eating breakfast before I exercise

7:30 Start exercising 4 miles

aprox 7 AM- 7:30 AM  7 bites

12- 12:15 PM  14 bites

6 PM or when family eats  24 bites

Total  Monday-Friday N days 45 bites

For my Weekends I just eat around 3-4 times whenever I want and then I divide the bites out like I want to (55 bites total)

Counting bites just is such a good portion control system! I can stay in control and still have a Capital S  Meal once a month!  I am hoping, God willing to go out to eat for date night with dear husband towards the end of March! I look forward to that meal, and yet I am still enjoying all my yummy bites in between there!

Maitenance Plan for Week 3

I had my Capital S day yesterday, so I am not planning on weighing until Tuesday.

Based on how things went last week, This is my eating plan for next week. I have increased my bites by 5 bites Monday-Friday for a total of 40 bites these days and increased my S days bites to 50 bites instead of 45

7-7:30 AM  6 bites

12-12:15  12 bites

6-6:15 PM Or when family eats: 22 bites

Total bites 40 bites

I changed my eating times this week closer to when I exercise and the meals are farther apart, I don't know if I will like it or not, I guess I will have to try it and see!

Im still figuring out exactly how many bites to keep me right in my 5 lb maintenance range, and I will probably be adjusting it from week to week for a while, maybe forever! That's ok! Id a lot rather adjust my bites than my calories! :)

Maintenance update 1 week

Today marks 1 week in Maintenance Mode

scince I reached my goal weight (150 lbs is my goal) of 149.8 lbs   on Feb 17, 2013

Feb 17, 2013 149.8 lbs  4 miles per day walked  aprox 34 bites per day avg.  2/18: 2 min Heavyhands & 3 lb weights with walks
1 week: Feb 24, 2013 146.2 lbs 4 miles per day walked aprox 32 bites per day avg2/24: 4 min heavyhands & 3 lb weights with walks

End of Week 1 Evaluation: Below 5 lb Maintenance Range

As you can see I lost weight, 3.6 pounds this past week

my 5 lb Maintenance Range is 147.5 to 152.5...
unless I decide I want it to be lower,  but I want a reasonable weight I can stay at long term, not something where I am fighting to stay so skinny! I believe my goal of 150 and a BMI of  24.2 is reasonable for ME! Someone else might have a lower BMI goal and that is fine, everyone is different, ;)

Ive been doing research on the Science of Wieght Maintenance (maybe another blog post ;)) and they say to add food slowly after you reach your goal. I don't want to have a rebound effect and add a bunch of bites all of a sudden, so slow and steady is the way for me!  So I have added 5 bites per day this week.

Bite plan for this week

35 bites/day Monday-Friday (up 5 from last week)

45 bites/day Sat-Sunday (up 5 from last week)

Monday through Friday Meal Plan This week

Meal 1: 12-12:15 PM  9 bites

Meal 2: 3-3:15 PM  6 bites

Meal 3: 6-6:15 or when  family eats: 20 bites

total 35 bites

Setting Meal times for my meals

This is not necessary for being successful with bite counting, its just something I recently started putting on my Stickk.com maintenance contracts each week. I really like eating at the same time everyday three solid meals a day....it helps the habit concept! I know I cant my 2nd meal until 3 PM, so I don't need to argue with myself about when I should or shouldn't eat. I do make exceptions, ect if I am going to be gone to someone elses house, ect, but I love the structure and habit of just doing the same thing day after day, day in and day out.  This concept of meal timing may not work for some people, just something I really like for myself that I recently started...

Capital S days/meals....

I am also incorporating 4-6 days a year into No-Counting Days"  (also called Capital S days from the No-S diet) (maybe another blog post to explain this concept more later).....  This coming Saturday will be my first No-Count day in Maintenance Mode!  I am excited about it, because a few days a year when I don't track bite will be nice.

A few days a year....Christmas, my birthday, Thanksgiving, Anniversary, ect would take up most of my Capital S days. By planning ahead, and having PLANNED days like this, I believe will help me to stick to this Long term...

Once a Month, I plan to have  1 " No-Count" meal with Dear Husband on our Date Night. I call these  Capital S Meals (again came from  No-S) That means I don't have to count anything, bites, minutes ect.... It  will be fun to look forward to these meals and yet I think it will help keep me on track for long term, like I mentioned above...

Capital S days and Capital S meals  means I don't have to count anything, bites, minutes ect....

This is not something I did when I was losing, and I am trying it out, knowing that I can change it if I need to, and if it doesn't work well for me ect...

Maitenance Plan....

In Re-Cap , My Maintenance Plan looks like this right now...

I will change if I need/want to according to how my weight trend stays in the 5 lb Maintenance Range and according to how my Maintenance Plan works for me!

You can see my Wieght Trend chart here....https://trendweight.com/dashboard/

N days (counting bites and 3 meals a day) mon-Friday
S days (still counting bites but more bites allowed 3-4 meals a day) Saturday-Sunday
Capital S meals (no counting anything just a meal/time to eat) 1-2 times a month
Capital S days (no counting anything) 4 days per year

I have liked the No-S concept of 3 meals a day and that really works well for me, and having a little more on weekends is another No-S concept, I just incorporate that into my bite counting!
